Moody Blues

Ok, we’ve all been there. The weather changes, work gets stressful, family comes into town. Feels like there’s a cloud over us that just won’t go away. Life often gives us exactly (and sometimes more) than we can handle. We may feel a little sad, call it “down in the dumps” or “blue.” These times can be normal, especially in the face of change like a marriage or a new baby (or both). Even happy changes can lead to stress.

How do you know when it’s more than just “the blues?” Here are a few signs to look for if you’re wondering whether or not your cloudy days are in need of some extra support:

  1. On-going sadness, tearfulness, or crankiness

  2. Change in appetite (up or down)

  3. Change in sleep (sleeping more or less)

  4. Fun stuff doesn’t feel fun anymore

If you’ve had these symptoms for more than 2 months, get yourself some extra support. Whether it’s from a friend, family, speaking with your PCP/GYN-OB, or a your friendly neighborhood psychologist (pick me, pick me!);. Life is too short to not feel sunny!
